In Response To: Why Are TD's So Resistant? (Mike Main)

This is not used in chess.

People just tend to learn chess clock play because it's part of the norm/culture. Similarly in BG, people may come from different backgrounds where they've never used a doubling cube, but no one is insisting on tournaments that don't use cubes.

Also chess can be played at long enough time controls that no one ever comes close to running out of time. People usually don't get started on 1-minute lightning or 5-second hourglass sessions.

I do think that BG should not be played at chess-like speeds, so it is a somewhat difficult problem to solve. I suggested that it could be introduced that way but I am having reservations about that idea. The feeling I get is that people don't care about the time control, they just don't want to play with a clock--either they don't want to learn new mechanics or they feel they are being hustled or God knows what.
