I think your concern for clock newbies is well-founded. However, I like Mike's idea of lengthening the time settings and keeping the rules (including forfeit penalty) the same as they are currently. That way we don't have to try and figure out if there are loopholes, and the transition to experienced clock play is smoother.

Given that 2/12 seems to be the standard for ABT events, what is a good setting for clock noobs, if the goal is a smooth transition? 3/15? 4/15?
