If there are 5 mins of time on your clock... it would take 100 3 second losses to use it up!

Over the course of a long match I could see a number of 3 second losses adding up to a considerable chunk of a player's reserve time.

What do we really want out of the time controls?

Is the delay time intended to cover only the most trivial moves, or is it intended the cover a larger number of moves, that, while not trivial, are still easy and may only require a few seconds to decide on?

Is the reserve time intended to be used for difficult decisions, or is it intended to be dipped into for most moves and decisions?

Do we want the clocks to be an integral part of the game to the extent that tactics and strategies are changed as a result or do we want the impact of the clocks to be minimal on checker and cube play?
