Ray: You have posted 50 times the number of comments on clocks than you have actually played matches with clocks.
I thought I made this clear in my posts.
Usually you state that you would like for the time limit to be longer.
No, I said that I was in favor of a fairly modest increase (2/15), but it's not a big deal to me. As Neil has pointed out this would allow enough time for slow players and elderly/handicapped to play without unnecessarily delaying a tournament. If you don't like that then there is the European 1.5/15, or maybe 1.5/18.
I don't think anyone who has played less than 10 clocked matches should have an opinion that counts.
I think, judging by my acceptance rate so far, you will have very few people with opinions.
I thought it was clear from this post that I was not proposing a rule change but was trying to indicate what I felt my current experience was with clocks, namely, that the time control seems to be faster in shorter matches but slower in longer matches. And I seriously doubt that I will get the chance to play ten 5-point matches at 2/12, ten 5-point matches at 2/15, ten 9-pointers at 2/12, ten 11-pointers at 2/15, etc., by the end of 2009.
This goes for everyone who has limited experience using the clocks. It's okay to have an opinion but TDs reading these posts by "clock rookies" would get the general impression that clocks are not popular because they always run out on you or make you play at an uncomfortably fast pace. The real reason people don't want to use clocks is that people RESIST CHANGE.
I agree and indicated as much myself several times. The question is how to get TDs or players to accept clocks.
Does anyone know if the clock parameters can be set to 2/12 for me and 2/15 for my opponent? I don't know the answer because I don't have a clock.
As others have indicated, the answer is no on a GameTime. However, other clocks can be set this way.
