I wasn't there to see it...but this is what I was told right after it happened..my match...on the other side of the room, was perhaps inbetween games or a friend came and interrupted me (perhaps in the bearoff) to tell me what had happened. I was told that he timed out in the bearoff with only 3 pieces left at DMP and I seem to recall that he was pondering a 2-1 roll. Could Larry have made the play in time ? That sure seems likely, but if he were younger like us, he'd be able to move faster anyhow and wouldn't be using up a couple seconds reserve time quite often.

I have played with 12 seconds delay time...several ABT matches and if you don't grab the dice quickly, shake quickly and really quickly notice the play, you have to move you arms rather rapidly to hit the clock in time.

I played with 15 sec delay time in the Bahamas and you can move nice and leisurely and hit the clock just in time after making a good shake of the dice. The extra 3 seconds is VERY helpful and you can often cock your dice once and not lose any time.

This is why I propose a change to 15 sec delay time NOW !!

As for reserve time...if given 15 sec delay time. I'd happily play with 1 min/pt reserve time. The 1.5 min/pt used in WSOB is fine for ABT events, and most certainly 2 min reserve time is adequate for the more thoughtful players.

BG is not meant to be played at chess-like speeds, nor is it meant to be played like speed chess. 2/15 is a perfect compromise for what this game needs and that is MANDATORY CLOCKS in Championship, Master, and OMG Doubles.
