In Response To: Maryland Updates? (Matt Cohn-Geier)

Thanks, Matt!

Not sure if anything else got played, I turned in around midnight, but I think Neil was in the money round in consolation, that is, if he won he cashed, so I assume he was in the semis, since main and consolation payed two places each.

Obviously also Mary was still alive in consolation, I think she dropped into the quarters of consolation and so needs 3 wins to win that.

But Mary at least made a profit off her entry fees. This being my first ever at Open level, I decided not to enter the side pool so Mary and Bill Versaw on the other half of the bracket were able to profit from that. They were already working on some elaborate hedging contract at 2-away/2-away that was so complicated when I dropped in on their match and gave them the news that the side pool was theirs, and then this news caused a modification of the contract. I offered to be a witness, I think they were about to seek out a notary public, but when Mary tried to explain it to me I just said, "as long as you two understand it"!

UBK is out, evidently he plays better for Euros than for dollars :-), but he is still legendary in these parts!

Also, I had a technical error in my last post, I should have said all of the Main bracket matches were finished at the Open level except the finals. There were still plenty of Consolation and Last Chance matches to play, and honestly, I wasn't concerned with Last Chance but if Neil was already in the money round of the Consolation on Saturday night that doesn't sound too bad.

It's funny this run I've had, I sure wasn't expecting it. If you look at my profile on this site, it truthfully says, "Nobody in the universe has fewer ABT points than me". I'm glad I'll have to update that soon. My original plan was to wait for getting my name on that ABT point list via Advanced first and then move up to Open, but I got to thinking, WTF, I may be waiting a good while. But first UBK told me earlier this year I was ready for the Open level, then Ed O' told me earlier this year I'd be a middle of the pack Open player (which is good enough for me at this point), and then finally CoolRey prophetically gave me some advice in e-mail (thanks, Ray!!) that I may find it easier to succeed at Open because there'd be fewer bizarro moves to contend with, plus he pointed out that I would not get props for winning at Advanced, I decided to just do it. (Hopefully they aren't just trying to keep the pond stocked with fish!)
