This is probably the most difficult situation in BG ruling because there is no equitable settlement.

I've heard of directors require a complete reroll. But this isn't satisfactory because if a the person whose turn it was doesn't like his diceroll, he plays the roll he wants and then (when called on it by the opp) gets to reroll, hopefully getting better dice than he started with.

OTOH, I've always been one who says that preventing cheating should take a back seat if there are other issues for a rule for one very simple reason: true cheaters, with no scruples, will always find a way to cheat. So if the honest players are dragged down by a rule written to prevent something it can't prevent, the cheaters win and the honest players get screwed.

Kit Woolsey has advocated clocks being used and then not keeping track of the times on the clock! That reasoning is for addressing this very issue of disputed dicerolls. (Just to be clear, Kit isn't expressing his dislike for clocks used as clocks. He's just saying having a method of determining when a roll ends other than by picking up the dice -- potentially destroying the evidence -- is a valuable thing and the single set of dice, etc. in clock rules solves this rare but unsolvable issue.)
