"Player A scores a G on a 64cube in game 1 of series. Player B now has to play aggressively with the cube to win. Player A just passes all of B's cubes. Loses series 6-1, but wins 30 VP's by virtue of the net 122 money game points he accumulated."
Well, it would not work like this. If Player A wins a gammon on a 64 cube in game one, player B would probably be cubing at his first opportunity, so if A drops every cube his lead might not be that big..(remember you are not playing a fixed amount of games, but a fixed time). So those 1 point losses will add up. But true enough a big swing are damaging to this system. But how common do you think these huge swing would be?
True, loosing a gammon on a 64 cube would be bad for player B , but loosing 128 points in the first game is also pretty bad in most normal matches too.

"In Bridge, this cant happen, as there are actual limits to the scoring, and you dont know what your running total is at the time. You are unable to manipulate."
Yes, I have also thought that this might be a problem. I am not sure if it this problem can be solved or not. Maybee a different scale(less linear) for scoring could help?
