Clock Petition

I am not opposed to a petition; however ......
1) I think a forum listening to perspectives from a number of folks would be better received by backgammon community-at-large, directors and players. Hopefully, the result of such a forum would be what we all seek.
2) Perhaps we could at this point petition all directors to support/participate in such a forum to address not only slow play but the added benefits provided by a single set of dice -- no fast rolling, no argument over what a roll was, no debate when a turn ends (except maybe when cubing).
3) I don't think we should focus on any punitive aspect to the use of clocks. They only solve problems with slow play and otherwise. This is to benefit all players and benefit tournament schedules by having them operate in a more timely and smooth fashion. It would allow more definitive scheduling and provide more confidence in schedules to players making flight arrangements and such.
4) I don't think any kind of ultimatum petition is warranted since most everyone I have heard from, directly or indirectly, is at least in favor of discussing the issue. Ultimatums can generate ill-feelings and cause lines to be drawn in the sand as some parties feel other parties are trying to dictate. I think everyone's goal is to better the game and the tournaments -- many of us feel clocks well address several problems, listed above.
Our efforts, I think, will be better received and more successful if regarded as persuasion and seduction rather than assault.
