There was another post somewhere in this thread or @ GU that if there were a shortage of clocks that the director could decide what matches were played with the clock. It seems to me this could cause the same sort of complaints, "How come my match is clocked and Joe Schmo's isn't?" I don't know if assigning clocks by random draw is the solution either, as players who bring their own clock may not be able to use it. Having all the clocks brought to a tournament provided to a director for use at their discretion just seems wrong, yet expecting a TD to be able to supply adequate clocks for a tournament is also unworkable.
I don't think the $5 fee is excessive. In fact, I would also support a $5 fee for board rental to those who don't have a board to play on. I do know that extra boards were available in Vegas, i don't know if there was a fee for them or not. My experience has also been that the likelihood of both players not having a board to play on is extremely unlikely.
