From part of the "silent majority"

Good to hear from a BG "clock novice".
Although your points about your first (one-point) match are valid, it should be well known among experienced clock players that "X minutes per matchpoint" is not truly equally applicable to all match lengths. The reason is that games that CAN'T end in a double/drop involve more moves. I believe the factor is rather large -- something like a factor of 2.
Another supporting fact is that in longer matches, the average number of points per game is larger due to the doubling cube (acceptance). When the doubling cube is out-of-play or hindered (because of matchcube strategy) the number of points per game is much less.
I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on number of games as a function of matchlength.
Fisher(sp?) rules -- free time is added -- has been discussed on occasion for use in BG. However, there is at least concern (well-founded or otherwise) that this would be more likely to lead to long (wall-clock time) matches than the Bronstein Rules that have gained favor.
