An obviously weaker player should, in my opinion, offer to pay the whole fee in order to make doubles more attractive to the pro. Almost nobody gets this, but it IS a cheap way to get a great real time lesson. It can be over in one match, but it might take 2,3,4,5. The going rate for lessons from pros is about $100/ hour... and if your doubles match lasts over an hour, well you get the picture.

Nack used to insist on his partner paying and sold it by saying that it would be one big lesson. Perhaps he would go to dinner after the match and discuss positions/strategy/ match management.

It's win-win to pay for your favorite pro!

Besides if you cash then you can take the entry fee out of the prize money and then split the rest, as a couple of my partners have done before. You only have to split the profits, if you negotiate well.
