makes sweeping hands gestures to let you know he knows he could hit two!
Lol. I do this all the time (though not very often in ABT tournaments). I generally do not set up plays and then reset them unless I actually want to look at it, however. I will set up plays that I don't intend to play, but only because I want to see how they look on the board.
Losing when I outplay my opponent by a mountain, I'm talking Everest, not I played a 3 something he played a 6 something, that I can live with. What I mean is I played a 3 something and maybe he played a 9. (in other words he played so poorly I can't even take a WAG at what his ER is because I so seldom see it)
Watching my opponent take ginormous passes, double/triple blunders + biggie sized where I'm over 80% and they're still apt to misplay the position if they have to...and abruptly being punished for sending over such an early cube.
Even if you outplay your opponent by a mile, you're still what, 60-75%? That means you lose a lot of the time. It's like a pair vs. one overcard. Yeah it's dominated, but it's hardly out.
Similarly with bad decisions. The most equity you can give up on any one decision is what, like .2? (normally, I have seen people give up .7-.9). If you were playing for $10 pp that'd be -$2, barely a dent in the scoresheet or your overall equity. If they consistently make these plays in the long run they will lose over time. However, one of the things that appeals to me about backgammon is I can make a .200 super-sized whopper and still play a 1.5 in a match. If I did that in chess I'd be done, game over man, game over.
People who take advantage of the unfortunate edges that backgammon affords them without feeling guilty.
What? Do you feel guilty when you win?
I sometimes feel bad for my opponents if they're steaming, but not because I won.
People who use my computer who I don't know without asking.
Lol. I also did this once. I didn't know whose computer it was, didn't have my laptop, saw Snowie running, and wanted a quick 3-ply eval of a position. Sorry Stick ;)
- People who fast-roll. Especially when I haven't even finished moving the checkers. I don't care if I'm taking too long in a simple bearoff, wait 1.3 seconds so I can finish my play. It's worse when it happens in middlegames, though.
