It seems to me that given that your opponent believed he was the weaker player by a large margin

Where did you get that from? I said I thought he was the weaker player, that doesn't imply in the least that he thought he was the weaker player. For that you'd have to ask him. There are also two pretty large blunders in there, I'd hate to think what the perceived ELO difference would have to be to make those correct.
