That would have been no controversy. If Texas Tech runs the table in the Big 12, Alabama runs the table in the SEC, and had Penn State run the table in the Big 10 -- Penn State loses easily. I regarded Alabama about equivalent with Penn State -- they've had about the easiest possible SEC schedule in a mediocre SEC year and three very close wins; however, if they go undefeated in the SEC and beat Florida in the SEC championship then you have to give them credit. Any one of the Big 12 South teams that would have gone undefeated (and obviously Tech is the only one remaining undefeated) beating their three opponents among Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma plus beating Missouri and/or Kansas from the Big 12 North in the regular season and, likely, Missouri again in the Big 12 Championship has gone unblemished through an unprecedented strength of schedule. The Big 10 and Pac 10 are both in a very weak year with little in-conference competition. The more interesting question is the comparative ratings of Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas. There, I think Florida should lose -- they lost to an unranked team at home. Texas beat Oklahoma by 10 on a neutral field and lost to Texas Tech by 1 in Lubbock. Obviously, Oklahoma's only loss is to Texas. So, Florida pales in comparison. However, if Alabama and/or Texas Tech loses, then it really gets crazy. I think, in all likelihood, the National Championship will be the SEC champion and against the Big 12 champion. I think Florida easily beats Alabama. Oklahoma hosting Texas Tech in Norman could be most interesting. If Oklahoma were to win I'm not certain how the three way tie is broken.
