I'm further out of the loop than most who have responded but I'm sure for your casual non wanting to play against a 2900 or 3k ELO bot Chessmaster still makes a decent product. The last version I purchased was Chessmaster VII and it had famous games, tutor mode, openings database, all that stuff I'm sure all chess bots have nowadays.
