EMG (equivalence to money game, or something like that) is a way of normalizing match-play errors to money play errors. So it is a way of modeling match play errors on a scale of -1.0 to 1.0 for losing/winning a single game, 2.0 for a gammon, etc. The point is that if you make an error, it is supposed to tell you the "size" of the error, rather than simply when the error occurred in the match.

You have a point about cube decisions relying on the match score and EMG IMO does not work as well as it should for cube decisions; you can see Jeremy's paper on take/pass decisions and NNE at http://www.fortuitouspress.com/emg.html. But MWC has its own problem that no one really understands how big a ".028%" or a "6.1%" error really is.

Both MWC and EMG are problematic on cube decisions IMHO.
