First Vegas Update

Vegas can be brutal. I remember vividly my first two trips to Vegas tourneys.
First one was my first big tourney anywhere outside of Texas and I had only started playing again maybe a year before after the usual twenty year layoff. Well, first round I sit down with the Brazilian Danielo Sahiano (sp?), not knowing who he was or anything, and before my butt got warm I was down 0-9/15 -- causing the first timer to immediately wonder if I knew what the hell I was doing. But I calm down and grind it out. Get up 13-11/15, have a huge racing lead with three of his checkers behind my five point prime. So, I tempt the dice and bg gods by shipping over the cube, which was immediately taken and flipped back. Then the requisite sequence of 6-6, 5-5, 6-6, 4-4 had Bill heading back to the room looking for something to hit. I'll never forget that one -- and it was only a precursor to the very next Vegas tourney.
First round I sit down with another Brazilian, whose name I don't recall and who was apparently Sahiano's best friend. A good hard match ensues and it comes down to the final roll with me up 14-13/15 Crawford. He has one checker left and I win the game/match as long as I don't roll a 2-1. Voila !!! The f'ing 2-1. So, we go to the DMP game. I get the 5-2 opening, come down and split. He rolls 5-5 putting them both in the air where they both remained for the entirety of the game -- never came in even once. So, from winning 15-13 by rolling anything other than a 2-1. I lose the match with one bad roll (2-1) and a single move in the DMP game. And I thought the match the previous tourney with Sahiano was bad. Good thing these matches were before I started recording.
Anyway, subsequently, Vegas has been pretty good to me so I guess it does even out over time. But, wow, those first two experiences were numbing.
