18/13 looks like the right start. You don't need three checkers on the 18-point and if you roll awkwardly the next couple of rolls (like 4-4) you'll be glad you did.

7/6 and 3/2 are my candidates for the ace. White shouldn't be leaving a shot in the next couple of rolls so the question is: "What do I want my side of the board to look like a couple rolls from now?" I see the 2-point as an improvement over the barpoint. However, I'll need to remake the 3-point and cover the 2-point to get that. I think I'll just play 7/6. Now I'll have 5's and 4's to slot the 2-point and 6's to cover the barpoint (and I get to keep the mandatory 3-point).

BTW, is "QF" a familiar term at this site, too? :)
