In Response To: Catchup #5 - Vegas Clock Forum (Stick)

I chatted with Pat about this for a few moments, but I was not invited to participate. That is strange. I will do the calcutta in LA, and Pat usually makes announcements. We could easily make some statements in reference to clocks. Pat uses them at either player's request in the Super 32, a fact that has been employed by Jason Lee a couple of times now on ME!

I find that I am sympathetic to those guys wanting clocks in ALL ABT matches, but I believe that overall you are in the minority. Most people don't because it represents change. My own feelings are that I would just like to clock the habitually slow players who (m?) always slow down tournaments. NOT, put a clock in when the match is going slowly... or clock the NEXT one because the clowns took 3 hours for an 11 point match, (and went to dinner early by 15 minutes in the meantime). However, Tournament Directors are a different breed of cat than I. They are people persons and they want to make everyone happy, and the good ones like Patrick, Bill Davis, CJC, Steve Hast (RIP), et al... have legions of faithful customers on account of it.

Afraid to step on anyone's toes, they skirt the issue and take a: I can deal with it when it becomes a problem approach. That way they don't offend anyone in the first place, as I would. Of course, if I was running a tournament only 3 people would show up, and two of them would be fighting for the ABT lead while the other one would live or work at the venue. I dunno what the right answer is, but TDs are not going to change their successful formula to accomodate a minority of players who insist on clocks, and boycotting will NOT be effective unless a significant percentage of players band TOGETHER and make a collective statement.

Nobody brought a proposal to the table of that meeting, did they? Neil and I both authored one, and yet neither of us was consulted in the end. I mean, I don't really CARE all that much. I love to compete and I will continue to go to tournaments that Harvey Gillis slows down without sanction because it often won't affect me... But it is still a shame. Spouting off in HERE is all fine and good, but someone needs to become a secretary and organize this little thingy you got going on men.

Stick can't change the rules of the ABT or sway the TDs without unified support. Voice your displeasure at ABT events, to the TDs who are in a position to affect change. We can all agree on this website... but it is useless to complain to your peers in this particular clique. Focus on the authority figures, organize a union of sorts, put pressure on the "politicians". We are a special interest group, and as such it may take money to get the attention of TDs in the form of non participation. Less talk/chat, more action, imho.
