You're right that GNU by default is set to MWC I believe in most, if not all, builds as far as I can remember.

How you changed it: Settings >> Options >> Display and depending on which one(s) of those you have checked is how it's displayed by default.

Does one simply open the window (in perhaps a 0-0 $ session) and then switch to equity from MWC, and then save it?

You can also change it this way, fire up a match and switch it by that magically little button you're speaking of to either MWC or EMG and then go to Settings >> Save Settings and it will remain that way the next time you open up GNU. I'll think of adding this on the link, thanks.
