Random thoughts:

- I totally agree that Snowie's labels are far too generous. And I think gnubg's labels are even stricter than what you suggest.

- Just for the heck of it (wild speculations are fun!): How many grandmasters do you think there are at this moment? How many worldclass players? On Iancho Hristov's recent list the 10th player barely made the WC cut - granted there are a lot of good players that for some reason or the other couldn't be on the list at all. On the other hand, there are some players which are considered WC by some/most, but wouldn't make it according to your criteria.

- The term 'grandmaster' is usually associated with chess, where I think it has become somewhat inflationary. I'm not an expert though - would chess players agree that not every grandmaster should (or rather, should ever have been) considered world class?

- I often wonder just how much the ER ranking correlates with true playing strength. Hmm, even putting the last sentence in more concrete terms could make me fill pages I guess. In short, do you think it is out of the question that some players with ER 4.4 (before rollouts) are stronger (whatever that means) than some with ER 3.2 (before rollouts)?
