In Response To: Snowie's error rate ranges and names revisited (Keene)

Keen said:"Otherwise, on this discussion, I would rather see more classes at the low ER end scale than at the top. ET covers too much, WC is too loose, expert isnt really 'expert'. Deepen the descriptions."

This is exactly what I think. Who need all those classes at the top? Everything with 10.0 and more are beginner or whatever. 5.x and 6.x players are okay but can't compete with true experts and world class players (To be honest such players are according their strenght for second division on tournaments which is in fact advanced.Ok, beauty of this game backgammon is that it possible to play on same tourney with best players and even win them which is immposible for example in tennis.), and again world class term should have more dignity than now with ER extended to 4.4. Come on, my ER in last three months are in lower 4.x but I can't call myself world class player definitely. And not every world class players are same. Just read Stick's post. Maybe his classes:

# 0-2.0 = well fuckin' played

# 2-3.5 = pretty damn good

# 3.5-4 = acceptable

are good idea for lower ERs distribution, although I think 3.5-4 range is so narrow. We can make here, on those two forums (BGo and GoL) as a strong GNUbg group of users, suggestion for GNUbg developers, we can't influence on Snowie classes but we are talking here definitely about Snowie equivalent ER which we can find in GNUbg. This become standard in open source oriented backgammon community.

There is Raccoon post 'Comparing GNUBG/Snowie error rates' here: http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+1333

I think true is somewhat between GNUbg and Snowie classes and should be modify to give us more precise and adequately picture.
