Meaning/origin of word: 'chouette'

I asked a French speaking friend (OK, French-Canadian for you snobs) the meaning of 'chouette'. He said he knew of two. One is a type of owl. The other is an affectionate term one might use in addressing a child. (Not THAT much affection, Stick.)

Are there more? I don't see how either of the above relates to the form of BG we are accustomed to.
