Ray wrote: "Nothing was said between the other games either, to my recollection... It's actually kind of uncool... 4 to 7, Mr. Russel? 12-9 Ray? Pros are pros and tend to ignore the letter of the law. Joe said nothing, just scored the game, despite his assertions to the contrary."

Barry says: I always state the score after each game. It is cool to be uncool. In fact I intentionally cultivated a geeky wardrobe strategy that I believe played a key part in my win at Baltimore in October (besides the field being considerably weakened by Ray's absence). My T-shirts got progressively nerdier throughout the weekend. Friday I wore an "IBM" t-shirt, Saturday I wore a "Carnegie Mellon" t-shirt, and in case readers of CJC's newsletter or Bill Davis' newsletter can't exactly make out the really nerdy t-shirt I am wearing in their latest issues, on Sunday I wore this (Color option #2):

I want pros to be more, not less, careful about observing the rules to be good examples for the newcomers. I always shake my dice vigorously, I always state the score after each game, I always say "DROP" or "PASS" prior to resetting the checkers,(I will grant that I usually don't say "DOUBLE" as the cube action is obvious), and I never move checkers with two hands.
