Clocking

Inconsistant hardware? Have you seen some of the equipment out there?
One guy has a board that has a bright red field and bright green points. The image of that board is still burned into my retna and is superimposed on all I see to this day. I'd rather look at the Medusa for the 30 minutes it took to play that blitz match.
One guy has a board with the checkers made out of the exact same leather as the points. Some of the checkers simply disappear into the playing surface as if they have engaged the Romulan cloaking device.
And I just saw this board in LA made out of what appeared to be carpet. There were no triangular points. There were simply 24 rectangular swatches of alternating colors like an odd 12x2 chess board. But it sure hides the footprints well.
Some people have doubling cubes on which it seems that you can look at all 6 sides and never manage to find the number 2. Some of them DO have the number 1.
Some dice don't have a simple single dot for the number 1, but have some bizarre bullseye pattern that you have to stare at like a deer in the headlights for a moment each time before it hits you that you've rolled an ace.
Variation is part of this great game and it will certainly apply to clocks as well. But like boards, and cubes, and dice, they ultimately all work pretty much the same during play, and it is trivial to adjust to the differences.
