Backgammon course

What you did, Chuck, which I like, is similar to the "endgame-first" theory of teaching chess. Start with basic checkmates, then cover some King and Pawn endings, then maybe Rook and Pawn, then if you want to get more complicated, Queen vs. Rook and Bishop, or Rook and Bishop vs. Rook. One key topic is how to win an ending when you start with various small advantages, especially when you're up one Pawn. But gotta keep it simple enough for the audience.
Then get into the center and development, and explicate with tactical refutations of ridiculously non-developing moves etc. Proceed to middlegames, positional themes, etc. etc. Show some amazing games like Rotlevi-Rubinstein 1907 (I suppose), "The Immortal Zugzwang Game," a beautiful one from "Pawn Power in Chess" played c. 1946. pick from an endless list. Finish ten years later 8-).
I've written some things about BG taking a similar approach but never published any (yet). They're in a heavy vein.
