Speaking of match breaks -- ethics question

In chess I recall that "anything goes" during an adjournment, the logic being that it's impossible to police what people do and thus a rule would merely penalize the honest people. I'd apply the same logic to a dinner break. Everyone is going to have a different opinion about ethics and you have absolutely no reason to expect that your opponent will not consult a match equity table, etc.
On the other hand, a 5-minute break is supposed to be for smoking/bathroom/etc and I really don't think you should discuss anything at all. Obviously there's no equivalent situation in chess, but you can certainly get up and wander around while your clock runs, and everyone would consider it cheating to consult outside resources.
