In Response To: Homeless man camps out at NY Metro Open (Rich Munitz)

Might not the number of players in the event be the metric, rather than the number of players per match?

(As usual, the following is not directed at Richard specifically but to all.)

If doubles just means having a shill roll the dice and having an expert choose the play, then let's find a better title than 'doubles'. But from my viewpoint (and more importantly, enjoyment), I see doubles as a collaboration of near equals contributing and possibly even showing that two heads are better than one. As a result doubles take longer.

The extra time alloted for doubles (as apparently in the US rules and also as planned by CJC for Novi) likely will be OK. My contention is that doubles are the result of the real problem, not the cause.
