In Response To: Intro to Clocks for Newbies in Pittsburgh (neilkaz)

If someone wants to play a single game just to get a feel for the mechanics, that's great. As I responded to Chuck, I would set my clock at 10/12 so that nobody comes close to time trouble but they can get the feel of a standard 12 second delay.

I am open and will support any idea that will get people exposed and interested in clock usage, including an exhibition match that includes some instruction. The idea that you can actually stop to talk a bit about the play and still not be in time trouble should be comforting to some. And I'd be happy to join you for one of these.

I suspect that there will be more than enough clocked matches going on at this event for people to watch throughout the weekend. I think everyone should push clocks for their matches, even if we use a 10 minute reserve per point instead of 2 and no penalty. Simply having people see more and more matches being played on clocks is part of the acceptance process. It is not necessarily obvious to a spectator that the TC is BS. They just see the clock and the opponent starts to understand that pushing a plunger instead of lifting dice is actually a nice thing.
