If I did the mental 'rithmetic right this is close to GG in risk/reward. So hitting looks like the right choice. Then I count 29 covers after 9/3 and 33 covers (including 4-4 shift) after 14/8. (There are also the lift possibilities with the 4-1 roll after 14/8 but I'm feeling you shouldn't lift.) The downside to 14/8 is that this checker on the 8-point gets hit sometimes, but an upside is that the bearoff (when White fails to hit) will be more efficient.

I think it's worth it to get extra covers and a more efficient (more gammonish) bearoff.
