Tournament rake rates

I agree as well.
However, we must recognize that there are big differences in the costs of hosting a tourney in LA, NYC, or DC in comparison to Peoria or Madison.
Not only are the hotel rooms more expensive but I can only assume the cost of the hotel ballroom and the usually requisite hotel services are considerably higher as well.
So, for a director to cover expenses and, perhaps, make a buck for his/her considerable efforts, they have to generate more revenue.
To keep the rake equivalent to events in smaller cities the director can only raise the entry fees to generate the required revenue.
So, we must accept/expect registration fees, higher rakes, and/or higher entry fees in the larger markets.
The tournaments may all be similar but the costs vary greatly. With no offense at all intended to Peoria (which I've never attended and understand is a great tourney -- and which I should attend sometime), it is not, in my opinion, a fair or valid comparison with NYC or DC.
