gambling ethics

My dad was a gambler and he passed on some words of wisdom to me. They were his words of advice, no matter how cold they come across. Yet at the end of the day my dad was rich in friends and had a heart of gold. Just not when he gambled.
He would tell me when you gamble;
1. You are gambling for one reason; to win money. If you do not believe it all you simply have to do is ask your opponent why he is gambling. He will tell you he is there to win your money. If you do not take his, he WILL take yours.
2. You have no friends when they sit across from you. Gambling is not about friendship, its about making money.
3. If you choose to sit at a poker table while I am playing I will not treat you any different than anyone else. If you can put up your money, then I am eligle to take it from you.
4. Do not give lessons or advice to your opponent. Some day that will come back to haunt you when he beats you with your own knowlegge.
5. After the session is over, it is over. Do not talk about winning or losing. No one wants to hear sour grapes and no one wants to hear you brag.
6. After the session, all rules of friendship are back in order. The game is over.
7. If you cant afford to lose, dont gamble. Concern yourself with your finances and not the other person's finances. They should know better.
8. If you bust someone and they go broke, do not let them leave empty handed. Give him something so he has something in his pocket. Remember, after the session ends he is still your friend or a new friend in the making. That is until he wants to gamble again.
