Time warning for digital clocks

The two ABT forfeitures that come to my mind are Jim Pascoe vs. Bob Koca at Michigan-2008 and Larry Liebster vs. Lucky Nelson at Peoria-2008. I wonder if a clock warning (but definitely more than 10 s before forfeiture) would have helped either of them.

As far as chess, I have no idea if the warning is ever used. I can tell you that there is no mention of backgammon anywhere in the 28 page booklet that comes with the GTII. (There are "wordgames" and "Go" besides the obvious "chess".) So there must be some competitive timed (mental) game that uses this warning feature.
