(Ramblings continue. :)
I rolled this out with GNU-bg 2-ply (not going to post that particular result) and it was in the 0.08-0.09 range as an ND. One thing I noticed (yellow flag) was how different the (estimated) cubeless wins were on the hold-2-cube vs. take-4-cube paths. Then I started rollouts of positions after hitting and comparing GNU-bg's eval to those rollout results.
2-ply eval was off by a ton on many positions, as much as 0.4 (quad whopper). Of course it undervalued Blue's side after getting hit which means that it would take as White, after getting hit, in situations which were clear (according to it's own rollouts) passes.
This is similar to real BG (human vs. human) where if you know (or strongly believe) opp will take on his next opportunity, even if you improve to a cash, you won't have lost your market at all in a practical sense so you are better off not doubling.
Penultimately I looked at GNU-bg 3-ply evals after Blue hits and those were much closer to the 2-ply rollout results. Finally I just ran two rollouts of the original position, both with 2-ply checkerplay, one with full 3-ply cube and one with 3-ply cube for 5 rolls and 2-ply cube after that ("stepped"). Those results in the next post.
