Well, I have seen extremely well-played matches (snowie error rates around 2 or 3) between world-class players (no, I am not giving names) with this time control to be tight on time. Some players like to think and take their time and the clock should not be a factor to affect the game. Although backgammon is not chess and a certain speed should be applied, the quality of the game should not be affected by time problems.

I don't understand what you're saying here. You have or have not seen SW ER of 2~3 on the shorter time control or longer one? If on the longer delay who says they couldn't play it on the shorter, if on the shorter wouldn't this argue for the 12s delay? And nobody cares who they are..they're fish.
