Very simply, I mean players may not be playing their best game against a player like this for a couple reasons: 1) they aren't used to seeing positions that arise, and 2) they allow themselves to get ruffled when a player they think they should crush is actually winning.

As far as Ray's 3-2 (2-1) illegal move, I didn't really think this was due to his being on tilt but rather (as he states) he had '2-1' on the brain since that was his opening roll and also Al's response roll. And he was calling for Stick to ask about how to respond to Al's 2-1 reply. In fact Ray kept his cool the whole match which contributed to his ability to win it.
