8. Must the winner pay the loser at the end of the match? Or is it standard to wait for payment until the end of the tournament when prizes are awarded? (I heard about a tournament in Europe where the prize money was robbed before players were paid.)
It depends. If they have the money they likely pay them on the spot, if not, they can wait, it's no big deal.
I think it is preferred to tell your hedging opponent if you will need to wait until prize distribution before settling the hedge. There is obviously no hard rule on this, just a courtesy which I've seen exercised.
As far as waiting because of larceny (as did happen at one of the Easter weekend Danish Wide Opens), probably not a big motivating factor. BTW, from what I heard the Ty promoters sued the hotel (who was "protectinging" the cash in their safe deposit box when it disappeared) and won, but it took a couple years. I'm pretty sure the prize money was then distributed in full, without interest (to my knowledge). Individuals who had also put $ in safety deposit boxes at the hotel were still left in the cold as the lawsuit was only Ty promoters vs. hotel.
