Amusing clock reactions from first-time clock users

Directors need to enforce that if you are still alive in the Main, there are side events you absolutely may not enter.
It's worse than that, though. The day before the Main (at most/all ABT events) there are Master and Amateur Jackpots plus doubles. I don't know of any ABT Ty where you are not allowed to enter all three simultaneoulsy (Master/Amateur + Doubles + Main). Anyone know of one where you can't? (Well, maybe California since doubles don't begin until Sunday, from what I've heard.)
However, I disagree that this is the biggest part of delays. Most (if not all) directors give priority to the Main event. So the side event schedule is impacted by this, but (usually) not the main event. Yet the main event (and here I include Consolation and Last Chance) is where I consistently see traffic jams.
At Pitt there was a slow first round match (first round started ~12:15 on Saturday) in the Open Main. Clocks were required for the winner and loser of that match, and on subsequent matches emanating from those, I believe. Yet on Sunday morning Michael Edge, in the LC, who was even (in the bracket) with all other players in the bracket but one (the slow path), had to wait for two rounds to be completed before he had an opponent. One of the players he was waiting for played in that slow match on Saturday. I don't know who was responsible for that first match running long, but regardless, since all (to my knowledge) subsequent matches were clocked, that one slow match propogated throughout the rest of the Ty.
This is why I repeatedly make the analogy with traffic tieups. Those of you who live in the big cities probably know this. Even after an accident has been cleared up the traffic slowdown continues. That is what we see consistently at BG tournaments. Clocking matches after the damage has been done does not correct the problem (although it does keep it from getting even worse).
We need all matches to be clocked. Fortunately I think we are headed in that direction, but let's not lose sight of that goal for 2010.
