"The defects of double-elimination tournaments are interesting. The last match where the undefeated player (who goes to the final) is determined has a massive effect on your chances in the tournament, likely far too much for any one match. The winner of this match becomes 75% to win the tournament, and the loser becomes 12.5% (and also finds himself in a situation where he might not cash at all.) "
A fix is having the winner of the one loss bracket play the winner of the undefeateds in a single match for the championship. Going 8-1 or so to win once defeated bracket is just as hard as going 6-0 to win the main bracket so from a fairness point of view it makes sense.
I beleive MFIC will be doing it this way for his LA events beginning this year.
