Clocks at Midwest

I, likewise, played Larry L. a match with the clock for his practice only -- no penalty. We used the standard 2/12 settings. I haven't input the match yet so I don't have all of the details of number of games, etc. but suffice to say it was a longer, somewhat closer match than MFIC's. Larry timed out a number of games before the end of the match. He didn't seem to me to be playing particularly slowly; however, I doubt he could finish most matches with the current settings. When I hit the clock to finish my turn, it seemed it usually took him 2-3-4 seconds to remember he had to pick up the dice, another few seconds (with his dexterity problems) to pick them up and get them into the cup, a couple of seconds of shaking and then rolling -- he was all but through the delay every move before he rolled. With cocked dice the whole procedure started again. And after seemingly every play I had to remind him to hit the clock -- at 2-3 seconds for hundreds of moves that adds up as well.
I think MFIC's suggestion of using 4 dice with the octogenarians, visually impaired, dexterity impaired, etc. is an excellent idea. As long as they must leave their dice on the board until they hit the clock (giving the opponent time to object to a misread of the dice -- which perhaps is more prone with the same people). We would still have the potential of fast rolls and disputed rolls (so it wouldn't clean up the mechanics of the game in the same fashion as with only two dice), but it seems to be a fair compromise for the impaired players.
And I guess it's another director's call situation regarding who gets such consideration.
