Is bitching rude?

You're welcome, Adam. I'd rather be a graceful loser than an A-hole winner, and anyone here is welcome to quote me on this. There are more important things than winning a BG tournament. Besides, the way I've been playing lately I'm already at least halfway to my goal. :)
I'd like to confirm to you and everyone here that what you experienced is far in the tail of the distribution of US tournaments I've played in. Actually I've never experienced anything this bad. When the person insulted you (saying you might not be able to play a less than perfect roll), IMO that was the time to call the director. Excessive whining might be tolerable; insults are not.
In general I use these situations to my advantage. If my opp is so obsessed with the dice he is hurting his own decision making. That's a nice bonus for me and I remind myself that he's trying to throw off my own concentration. If I can keep my cool in spite of that I have the edge. But again, insults are over the line. Call him down on it. Even if the director wimps out (and some will), the 'publicity' will have value.
The bottom line is that I hope you don't allow this to sour your feelings about US tournament BG. It's been a long time since I've even experienced any bad feelings coming from an opp, and having played you a couple times I don't feel that you are doing anything to instigate such an exchange. Chalk it up to an unlikely and uncomfortable experience from which you will learn. Enjoy your 2nd place finish -- well done.
