Doesn't it matter what your goal is? If your goal is to maximize your Return on Investment (RoI) = (expected profit / total risk) then I think you are better entering the round of 32. Here's why:

Assuming round of 32 entry fee = 1/2 round of 16 entry fee (call the latter 'F'), your probability of winning in the round of 32 is 'P[32]', and your expectation (in $'s) once you make the round of 16 is E[16] you ask

P[32]*E[16]/(F/2) > E[16]/F ? which simplifies to

P[32] > 1/2 ?

I think your assumption that you are one of the best players in the field tells you that this inequality is true. Thus from an RoI standpoint you should enter the round of 32.
