After some discussion about playing the opponent in your thread about your late match double against Ray you have me wondering if quality of opponent matters here.
If you take two off against a weak player, for sure you give him/her the chance to err if s/he fails to hit next roll. Specifically, will s/he run off the BG or not.
The other place you might be able to take advantage of an error is, when hit, how good is opp at capturing a second (or even third) checker. I.e. if 3/off, 3/1* is technically the best play (and for now I'm not even trying to figure out if that's true) you may still be better off ripping two against a weak player. If taking only one off is correct it's because it's harder for White to capture more checkers, but if opp is pretty inept at that anyway then there is no downside to ripping two.
If against a very strong player I think I'd still take two off here. That extra checker off can be worth quite a bit and given there is only one point open in opp's board it's going to be hard for him/her to find another Easter egg, anyway.
