Theft at Recent ABT Events

Those "locked" rooms are NEVER locked securely.... they usually have service entrances that anyone can get into now that hotel bookings are low and staff has been cut.

The theft of Alan's board was evidently an "inside" job. Carol has the details about it... she shared a few with me over the weekend. I believe that that was a separate incident not related to the recent rash of thefts.

My video camera was stolen in Chicago.

I believe that Petko's board was stolen in Charlotte.

Each of the thefts have been at different locations and has been this year. Since no one recalls anything like this (the string of thefts - I'm sure individual thefts have happened once in a while over the past 30 years), it seems likely that it is someone attending the tournaments who has started attending recently or whose financial situation has recently changed (a possibility I think I heard Bill discussing with someone, though this seems less likely to me.)

So... unless you're willing to stab someone with a fork, be wary of leaving anything unattended.
