I think players should be allowed to bar another 'player' at his own whim. Players should not be allowed to bar 'non-playing associates of the opponent' -- wives, husbands, gfs, bfs, etc. -- without cause.

Anything that gets in a player's mind, rightfully or wrongfully, can affect the player's performance. As an example, if a player is intimidated by the presence of a world class player watching -- because he thinks he might make a terrible blunder and be humiliated because of it -- the player should be able to ask him/her to leave.

Again, I'm not going to bar anyone without cause. If someone wishes to bar me on a whim -- so be it. I'm a courteous guy, I'll go watch another match. However, maybe I wouldn't suggest the person attempt to watch any of my matches in the near future.

Maybe it's analogous to someone not inviting me into their home or to their party -- should I be able to demand to go anyway? If someone doesn't want me there, fine.
