Hedging - and more...my personal recap of Vegas

I like that last statement...and completely respect anyone else that declines a hedge offer when asked by myself or anyone else for that matter.

Sorry I played like a total donk in our limited jackpot match...I don't know where my head was. I wish I had given you a better match.

I don't hedge nearly as much as I used to and declined when asked to do so at the start of my match in the round of 8 as I believed I was the solid favorite. We got to 7-away - 7-away and took a break. When I was ready to continue my opponent said he was looking for someone to take the hedge. At that point I agreed to hedge $500 with a $500 kicker if the winner of the match won the tournament. I won the match breaking my six money-round match loosing streak on the ABT.

I was to play John O'Hagan in the semis. I had never met him before the weekend but had the pleasure of dining with him at the Peppermill with a few others twice....including just before we were to play. I know that he is a world class player but I must say that more importantly he is a world class person...one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. If you haven't had the chance to meet him yet the next time you are at an ABT event and he is there...introduce yourself and you will very quickly feel the same way I do.

I asked John to hedge and he asked for 6-5 odds 1200-1000. I aggreed but requested even odds for the $500 kicker that I proposed. He agreed and the asked if I was ok with this hedge. I said sure and mentioned that when speaking with my wife I told her I thought I was probably a 60-40 dog so only having to give 6-5 I was pretty happy....especially with even money on the kicker.

I lost a fantastic match to John at DMP. I led 6-1, John took an 8-6 lead, I led 12-10, then dropped 4 straight games to go down Crawford/3-away, I won the Crawford game and he used his free drop to get to DMP. The last game was as great as the whole match going back and forth at least 3 or 4 times. I congradulate him on a fantastic match and for winning the whole dang thing. He won 6 matches, 4 at DMP. Ugh!!! That is work!

I would also like to thank MCG for recording my round of 8 match and Rob Meier for recording my match with John. I have never had a match recorded by notation and am very appreciative. Also, I must say that Howard, Lynn, and company ran an awesome tournamnet and I applaud them for all there hard work in running such a great tournament.
