Hedging

There are three issues, right?
Some have a greater risk tolerance than others. They are playing for the thrill and having bigger numbers on the line is more exciting. Some have a bigger bankroll than others. They are not risking as much when they refuse a hedge. And some have a higher opinion of their own play vs their opponent, rightly or wrongly, and don't feel they are risking as much when they refuse a hedge.
All of these asymmetries make hedging a potential trap for players (like myself) who are on the wrong end of the equation. I want to hedge because my bankroll is small. I want to hedge because I don't need more than a couple hundred to be on the line for it to be interesting (read, scary). And I know I am a dog against at least 25% of the open field in any tourney.
So what should you do if you run into a player like me? Refuse a hedge to make me more nervous? Take advantage of the asymmetries to get better odds? Or take pity on me and offer a better hedge than you could? Tough call.
