From Kotov's "Think Like a Grandmaster" chess book, he suggests a mechanical remedy of writing down the move first before touching the pieces. This allows you to break your thinking process and re-look at the position, possibly allowing alternatives to pop up.

I translated this for BG to either rechecking the board after the move, or moving one checker out of the combination and then reexamining the now changed board position.
