I agree that it is terribly difficult. And, there's lots of problems with a non-random sample like this or any other sample that one may compile. What I like about this is that it is something other than a player's self appraisal. Those will usually be inflated, sometimes deflated and almost never accurate. Self appraisals tend to throw out bad performances. (I wasn't concentrating, I don't care about consolation, etc.)

I think there's a relevant point to this thread. A lot of players including myself wonder, "what will it take to succeed?" What I have been seeing recently tells me that an important part of the answer is - consistency. Too many players (again in including myself) turn in too many weak performances. There's opportunity here for the player who can "bring it" to every match.

You guessed wrong Chuck. I didn't get my estimate of the median with an adjustment of my own ER. I used someone else I know who is closer to the middle of the pack than I am. Even so, if you think my estimate is too high, I respect that. It is certainly nothing better than a guess.
